Lesson plans or activities

Page history last edited by Deb 5 mos ago

We would love to hear how teachers are currently using technology in their classroom and any lesson ideas you have for when the laptops arrive. Below are a couple of examples of  lesson ideas that will appear on the Curriculum K-12 Mathematics website by early term 3.  Please feel free to comment on these lessons so that they can be published in the most useful format possible.  If there are any specific L4L software programs or topics you would like lessons produced for, now is the time to let us know!

These are the applications that will be on the first Digital Education Revolution NSW teacher (T1) and student (S1) rollouts.

Please comment on the example lessons and add your ideas below.

Line through a point.pdf

This lesson uses GeoGebra to plot a point on the number plane.  Students use guess, check and or other refining strategies to discover equations of lines which pass through the point.  Students explain why certain equations pass through a common point.

Cumulative Frequency.pdf

This series of activities gives students the opportunity to investigate problems which use cumulative frequency tables and calculations involving Excel spreadsheets.

Clinometer.pdf

Students construct a clinometer using a protractor, piece of string, piece of clay and a straw.  Students use the clinometer to determine the heights of six tall objects using the angle of elevation, the height of the measurer, the distance from the measurer to the tall object and trigonometry.  The process is recorded using digital photos which are then annotated with appropriate measurements, lengths and instructions.

Thanks to Curriculum K-12 for creating this wiki. This will be a great help to Maths teachers and a great model for networking. I certainly will be promoting it with staff here at Sydney Distance Education High School. The great benefit of this networking is that we can share resources and ideas at the click of a button! We receive our T1 Teacher laptops today and look forward to implementing the L4L program in our school. Thanks again! We will keep you informed as to progress with L4L at our school. Julie Kennedy, deputy Principal, Sydney Distance Education High. School.
